Center for Aortic Disease

The UCSF Center for Aortic Disease cares for patients with conditions involving the aorta, the large artery that carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. These conditions include aneurysms (weakness in the artery wall that leads to a bulge), tears and blockages.

Our team of specialists includes:

  • Vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons
  • Cardiologists
  • Anesthesiologists
  • Radiologists
  • Rheumatologists
  • Geneticists

Together, we provide a full range of aortic care, from the most advanced treatment options to monitoring and long-term follow-up care.

Our surgeons have expertise in both traditional and minimally invasive procedures. This includes endovascular techniques where we reach the aorta through a small incision near the hip. Our team has pioneered endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms using stent grafts, which are tubes made of metal mesh and fabric that reinforce the artery wall.
